OUR PRIVACY POLICY

We collect, use and disclose your information. VT will not collect, use or disclose your personal information other than in compliance with this Privacy Policy.

By installing VT’s mobile application or other mobile applications used by VT for its business, including Vancouver Taxi (collectively the “VT App”), registering through our various websites or by any other means, by ordering and paying for VT’s services by telephone, through the VT App or by any other means, you agree to the terms and conditions of VT’s Privacy Policy.

TYPE OF INFORMATION COLLECTED

 We collect personal information from you when you install the VT App on your mobile device, save or otherwise provide your personal information to us, such as by setting up a user account and password, logging in as a registered user, making an order for our services, providing information in your account (and you might have more than one, if you’ve set up more than one account with us), interacting with us by using the VT App, the telephone, e-mail, or through our websites, mobile optimized websites or otherwise or if you complete an entry form to  participate in a contest, promotion or survey that we organize.  As a result of these actions, you might supply us with personal information, such as your name, e-mail and postal addresses, phone number(s), credit card information, survey information and financial information and in certain circumstances, your opinions (including data relative to your evaluation of drivers) and individual preferences. We, or service providers providing services to us, or being contracted or subcontracted to us or by us, may also acquire information about you and maintain a record of your information, as well as our present and future affiliates or divisions (collectively, “VT Affiliates”).

When you use the VT App or visit our websites, we may also gather certain information automatically and store it in log files. This information may include without limitation, your location, your mobile device, including a unique identifier for your device browser information, Internet Service Provider (ISP), operating system, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses or other device identifiers, location and date/time stamp.  VT and our service providers will use and store this information to provide you with location based services, search results, and other personalized content.  VT will provide notifications only to those customers who accept to receive such notifications. Most mobile devices allow you to control or disable location services in the device’s setting’s menu.  If you have questions about how to disable your device’s location services, we recommend you contact your mobile service carrier or the manufacturer of your particular device.  However, if you disable the location service in you mobile device, the VT App will cease to function correctly as the location service is essential to its use.

The VT App and VT’s websites are directed for people 13 years old and older. VT does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13.  Those under age 13 should not use the VT App, VT’s various websites or mobile applications or provide VT with any personal information.  If we learn that we have collected personal information of a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information from our files as soon as practicable.

PURPOSES FOR WHICH YOUR INFORMATION IS COLLECTED

 VT may use your personal information to

  • provide you our taxi and taxi related services, including processing payment,
  • collect precise location data on you and the driver and vehicle assigned to you;
  • provide you with information or answer questions about the status of your order for our services;
  • administer your account and contact you;
  • facilitate communications including collecting information about your device information, your phone number and the content of your SMS messages
  • communicate with you (via our mobile applications, by telephone, by push notification, e-mail, post or otherwise) and provide you with promotional materials and additional information regarding our services, products, surveys, contests, promotions and special offers;
  • help us learn more about your preferences and interactions with our services; and
  • conduct marketing and performance research, to assist us in measuring our service, bench marking our performance and to help us improve our experiences, services and product offerings.  As provided below, you may always choose not to receive promotional materials or marketing information.

YOUR INFORMATION AND THIRD PARTIES

 If you use the VT App, order our services, visit any or our websites, participate in a contest, survey, promotion or special offer, we may share your personal information with VT’s Affiliates, so that they can communicate with you (whether by push notification, telephone, e-mail, post or otherwise) and provide you with promotional materials and additional information about their services, products, contests, promotions and special offers that may be of interest to you, or collect and use that information subject to and for other purposes contemplated by this Privacy Policy.

We do not sell or rent your personal information to non-affiliated third parties except as permitted by law.  However, in the event of a sale of all or substantially all of our business or another similar transaction, we may transfer or disclose your personal information to a purchaser or prospective purchaser, who may collect, use and disclose such information for the purposes of evaluating the proposed transaction or operating and managing the affairs of the acquired business, or for other purposes identified in this Privacy Policy.

We may disclose information about you to our partners (including to service or content providers, or to copyright holders) to the extent such disclosure is required for purposes identified in this Privacy Policy. Specifically, we may use third parties to facilitate our business, such as payment processors, to host the services at a co-location facility for servers, to send out e-mail or push notification updates about our services, or to provide customer service.  In connection with these business operations, our contractors and service providers may have access to your information collected by us for use for a limited time in connection with these business activities. Where we utilize third parties for the processing of any personal information, we implement reasonable contractual and technical protections in order for such third parties to keep all personal information they process strictly confidential.  Please note that these third parties may be located in other countries where the laws on processing personal information can differ from the laws of your country of residence.

The information you provide to us may be transferred to countries outside of Canada by us or by one or more VT Affiliates.  By way of example, this may happen if any of the servers used by us or by any VT Affiliates are from time to time located in a country outside of Canada or a VT Affiliate is located in a country outside of Canada.  These countries may not have similar data protection laws to Canada.  If we transfer your information outside of Canada in this way, we will take steps to ensure that your privacy rights continue to be protected.  We may use third parties for the fulfillment of our obligations hereunder.

We will keep your personal information only as long as is reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy or such longer period as may be required by applicable law.

We reserve the right to disclose your personal information as required by law, in response to legal process and law enforcement requests, and as necessary to protect the property, interests and rights of VT and the VT Affiliates.

The VT App and VT’s various websites may contain links to websites operated by third parties. These websites may collect your personal information.  This Privacy Policy does not apply to the practices of third parties and VT does not assume any responsibility for your using such websites and/or accessing a third party’s website from the VT App or any of VT’s websites.  By using the VT App, any of our websites and/or accessing a third party’s website from any of VT’s websites, you release VT of any responsibility for the actions, practices and omissions of third parties.  Please check the privacy policy at each website you visit.

INFORMATION ABOUT PLATFORM PERMISSIONS

Mobile platforms (such as iOS, Android, etc.) have defined certain types of device data that mobile applications cannot access without your consent.  Your consent is required differently from one mobile platform to the other.  For example: (i) the iOS platform will alert you the first time a mobile application requires permission to access certain types of data and will let you consent (or not consent) to that request; (ii) Android devices will notify you of the permissions that the mobile application seeks before you first use the mobile application and your use of the application constitutes your consent.  Should you need more information on this subject, please refer to the website of the relevant mobile platform.

RECEIVING PROMOTIONAL COMMUNICATIONS

We want to communicate with you only if you want to hear from us. If you prefer not to receive promotional information from us, other VT Affiliates or third parties that we entrust with such a task, or if you do not want us to use your information to enhance your experience, please let us know by using one of the following methods:

Please be sure to include your full name and the e-mail address you used when you registered with or made a purchase from us.  It may take up to 2 weeks to process your postal mail request, during which period you may continue to receive communications from VT, VT Affiliates or third parties.  You may also unsubscribe from VT’s email services by using the unsubscribe link situated at the bottom of any promotional message you receive from VT.

COOKIES AND USE COOKIES BY VT ON ITS WEBSITES

Cookies are small data files transferred to your computer’s hard-drive by a website or other Internet-connected devices. They keep a record of your preferences making your subsequent visits to the website more efficient.  Cookies may store a variety of information, including, the number of times that you access a website, registration information and the number of times that you view a particular page or other item on the website.  We use cookies to provide you with a tailored experience when visiting our websites and using our products and services. We also use cookies to understand traffic patterns on the VT App, our websites and services, and to authorize access to certain premium or trial content and product features.  We use authentication tokens to automatically authenticate users of certain of our applications.

The use of cookies is a common practice adopted by most major sites to better serve their clients. Most browsers are designed to accept cookies, but they can be easily modified to block cookies; see your browser’s help files for details on how to block cookies, how to know when you have received cookies and how to disable cookies completely.  You should know, however, that without cookies, some of our websites’ functions will not be available and you as user will lose some of the benefits of the website.

ACCESSING OR CHANGING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION, WITHDRAWING YOUR CONSENT, OR MAKING INQUIRIES OR COMPLAINTS IN RELATION TO THIS POLICY AND VT’S PRIVACY PRACTICES

VT will ensure that the personal information it collects is as accurate, complete, and up-to-date as is necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used.  You are entitled to request access to and correction of your personal information collected by us.  In order to make such a request, or if you have any questions or to make any complaint in relation to this Privacy Policy and VT’s privacy practices, please contact our privacy officer by writing to:

SECURING PERSONAL INFORMATION

We have adopted appropriate measures to ensure the confidentiality of personal information and to safeguard personal information against loss or theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification, in light of, among other things, the sensitivity of the information and the purposes for which it is to be used. Furthermore, each and every VT employee, mandatory or agent must abide by this Privacy Policy.

CHANGES TO OUR POLICY

VT frequently revises this Privacy Policy to keep it up to date with applicable legislation and VT’s services.  Where a significant change to this Privacy Policy is introduced, an updated notices may be used to alert users to such changes and to the date of the last update, such as the posting of the revised Privacy Policy on the VT App, any of VT’s websites or services.  Following our notification of such changes, your continued use of the VT App, any of our websites or of our services will constitute your acceptance of these changes and you will be bound by such changes.  If you do not continue to use the VT App, any of our websites or our services following a change to our Privacy Policy, but take no other action with respect to your personal information, our use of that information will nonetheless be subject to our Privacy Policy as amended.  You are responsible for regularly reviewing this Privacy Policy and any changes thereto.
